More Than Rooflines: The Different Ways True North Lights Up a Property

Most people know us for Christmas lights on Calgary homes, and that’s still the biggest part of what we do. But over the years, the work has grown well past the roofline. We light up acreages, trees, front yards, patios, weddings, and commercial properties across Calgary and the mountains. Here’s a look at the different kinds of projects we take on and what goes into each one.

Homes and Front Yards

A typical residential install starts with the roofline. We clip C9 bulbs individually along the gutters and peaks so every bulb faces the same direction, which gives the house a clean, even line. From there, the front yard is where a display really comes together. Trees wrapped in our C5 strands add depth and glow, and we match the wire to the job, using brown on trunks, green in the branches, and black on posts so the cord disappears during the day. Wreaths can be added for $25 to $50, and our colour-changing C5s give you fade, flash, multi, and twinkle modes from a remote if you want some movement in the yard.

The best front yard displays usually come from layering. A lit roofline on its own looks good. A lit roofline with wrapped trees, lit posts, and a wreath on the door looks finished.

Acreages and Large Properties

Bigger properties come with bigger opportunities. Long driveways, entry gates, fence lines, and large mature trees can all become part of the display, and the scale is what makes these projects stand out. They also take more planning, from how power gets run across the property to how many strands a large tree needs to look full. If you’re outside city limits, there is an out of town fee to cover fuel and crew time, and we’re happy to walk the property with you to plan the layout.

Patio and Bistro Lighting

Christmas isn’t the only season we light up. Our patio lighting is built for decks, backyards, and restaurant patios, and we use a cable grid system that lets us attach cleanly and securely to buildings and posts, with the lights clipped to the grid by snap links so they can come down for winter. Our patio strands have 18″ bulb spacing and waterproof connections, which is what allows us to warranty the display for 5 years.

There are a few bulb options depending on the space. The 4W soft white is our brightest bulb and works well for skating rinks, backyard sports areas, and work areas, while the 2W warm white gives that classic golden glow for restaurants and personal patios. For something more modern, our RGB colour-changing bistro lights run off a remote with colour options, flash, fade, and twinkle, and they can even dance to music. We also have custom built poles, metal pole extensions, and wall mount plates to make the setup work on almost any patio. 

Weddings and Events

We install and rent lights for both interior and exterior weddings, and it’s some of the most rewarding work we do. We carry white wire products specifically for weddings, our bistro lights are dimmable and can be remote controlled to dance to music, and our C5s come in static colour or with a twinkle function. Canopies, trees, dance floors, and outdoor ceremony spaces all look completely different once the sun goes down and the lights come on. 

Since no two weddings are the same, we set up an in person consult and pricing appointment for each one. We’re also happy to work with wedding planners and designers, and we pay referral fees to professionals who use our services. 

Commercial Projects

Commercial work is a different scale, and it comes with different standards. We’re trusted installers for clients like Parks Canada, the Town of Canmore, CP Rail, Deerfoot City, WinSport, and more than 20 other commercial clients, along with a number of residents’ associations.

Safety and professionalism matter even more on these projects. Every installer is fall safe certified, every elevated platform operator is licensed, and our commercial team leaders have over five years of experience on large projects. Each project has at least one First Aid certified team member, and we manage traffic permits along with traffic and pedestrian safety.
